Our Club works to raise funds for cash awards for Santa Cruz County women and girls, who are pursuing education and training leading to economic stability. Here are our major projects—with new, exciting ideas waiting in the wings—all of which offer fun volunteer opportunities for those who support our mission:
Santa Cruz Shakespeare (SCS)
For the last four summer seasons, our club has partnered with SCS and been charged with operating the rental booth at the SCS outdoor theater in DeLaveaga Park. With the help of all our members and many volunteers, we rent cushions, beach chairs and blankets at more than 50 shows over a typical eight-week season. In exchange, our club receives a percentage of the money collected from the rentals, and everyone who works the shows gets to see all the plays for free.
Human Race—Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County
Although the Human Race was canceled in 2021 due to the pandemic, our Club typically puts together a team of walkers who commit to this Santa Cruz County-wide fund-raising opportunity offered for non-profits sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County. The walkers as well as all the Club members solicit pledges for the team!
Dining Out for Soroptimists—Eat Up Folks!
Several restaurants in Santa Cruz County offer fund-raising opportunities to non-profits by offering them a percentage of our dinner guest’s checks. We invite friends, neighbors and complete strangers to dine with us on a designated evening. Our Club has been lucky enough to be chosen to participate in a “Dining Out Night” at the following eateries:
- Shadowbrook Restaurant
- Mountain Mike’s Pizza
- Tony & Alba’s Italian
- Discretion Brewing
General Fund Support
We pay club dues, create raffles and host game nights or other fun activities as the need arises to cover our administrative expenses. You can help us by supporting our non-profit organization with your tax-deductible contribution.
