Our most frequently asked question: What the heck is a Soroptimist?
Soroptimist is a coined Latin phrase meaning “best for women.” The organization, founded in 1921—one year after women won the vote—in Oakland, California, is now an international volunteer service organization for women with 30,000 members in 120 countries and territories around the world.

Our Club was recently honored by the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County for all our volunteer work at a ceremony at the Santa Cruz Warriors arena. Here’s what they said about us:
“Soroptimist International of Capitola-by-the-Sea is a thriving group of 16 volunteer powerhouse women who raise funds each year to support local single moms succeed in college through their Live Your Dream awards. Undeterred by the disruption of COVID to their main fundraiser at Santa Cruz Shakespeare, Club members held half a dozen new fundraisers in a six-month period to insure that young women could continue to build a bright future through education.”
